About me

Hi and welcome!

I am Yeşim, it is a Turkish name, and it means Jade (i.e., the green gemstone) in English. Nice to meet you!

Since you are here, a bit about me:

I have explored human behavior and perception (mainly in the area of mating) from multiple angles: social (MSc), cognitive (MS), and evolutionary (Ph.D.). (See here and here).

I speak Turkish, English, and Dutch.

I love immersing myself in stories (fiction and non-fiction), they let me step into another world, all from the comfort of my couch!

Thanks to my game-loving spouse, I’ve come to realize that video games can be a wonderful medium for discovering and telling stories. In fact, we even created a short one a few years ago — Arranged! (Maybe it’s about time we start working on a new one?)

Previously, I wrote here about data analysis, covering topics like using Python, preparing data, and creating visualizations. While an analytical mindset remains a core part of who I am, my attention is now shifting toward stories *for this blog* (to see my data-related outputs, click here).

Building on this shift of focus, I’ll be sharing my thoughts on various media such as books, journals, and newspapers that I’m reading and the games I’m playing here.

Expect a blend of personal opinion, scientific curiosity (always!) and a love for stories across genres and cultures.

Thanks for joining me on this journey. I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoy exploring these worlds!
